President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Tuesday, 2pm answer oral questions from MPs in the National Assembly (NA) on key national issues, including the impact of US trade tariffs on South Africa, the ongoing crisis at Postbank, and the objectives of the National Dialogue.

This marks the first sitting since MPs returned from engaging with communities nationwide.

The session is expected to focus on South Africa’s economic outlook, public service delivery, and international developments affecting the country’s global standing.

One of the most pressing issues on the agenda is the recent US tariffs imposed on South African exports.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile is scheduled to appear before the National Council of Provinces later this week.

Parliament's return kicks off a politically charged final quarter of 2025, with tough questions and high expectations.

EFF leader, Julius Malema, who has labelled the tariffs "senseless", demanded that Ramaphosa clarify their impact on diplomatic and trade relations with the US.

The ANC’s Chief Whip, Mdumiseni Ntuli, called for an update on the future of the Postbank and how the government plans to support it as part of its broader goal to establish a state-owned bank.

Meanwhile, the DA’s Chief Whip George Michalakis wanted answers about the purpose and outcomes of the recent National Dialogue, which the DA boycotted.

He is questioning whether the dialogue has any real potential to drive economic growth, job creation, or poverty reduction.

Ramaphosa is also expected to report on South Africa’s progress during its G20 presidency. The country will hand over leadership to the US later this year.

Last week, it was confirmed that Vice President JD Vance will represent the US after it was revealed that President Donald Trump will not attend the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November.
