The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, established to investigate allegations of criminality, political interference, and corruption within South Africa's criminal justice system, has announced the activation of its confidential public hotline.

This hotline aims to facilitate the submission of information relevant to its mandate, particularly concerning claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

In a media briefing on Monday, Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed that the necessary systems are now operational.

He emphasised the importance of the hotline, stating, “We are now pleased to confirm that the necessary systems are up and running. In addition, we have launched a confidential reporting hotline for receiving reports from the public.”

The hotline includes several platforms designed to protect whistle-blowers and ordinary citizens alike.

A key feature is a telephone line where members of the public can speak confidentially to an operator and provide information related to matters of importance.

Michaels noted that the Commission’s terms of reference are broad but specifically focus on the allegations made by Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi. Therefore, information submitted through the hotline must fall within that mandate.

The Madlanga Commission will convene at the Bridgette Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria Central, starting on September 17, 2025.

The Commission was tasked with investigating criminality, political interference, and corruption within the criminal justice system, following explosive claims made by Mkhwanazi in July.

Its mandate is to thoroughly examine these allegations to ensure accountability and transparency within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Providing the hotline’s contact details, Michaels said: “The hotline’s email address is madlangacommission@behonest.co.za and the contact number is 0800 111 369.”

He also mentioned that the Commission would soon release a comprehensive statement detailing how to access and use the other platforms connected to the hotline.

“The Commission will issue a comprehensive statement to educate the public on how to use and access the other hotline platforms,” Michaels said.
