The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) is expected to address challenges facing South African youth, which include unemployment, rampant crime, gender-based violence, food safety, and the regulation of spaza shops.

The media briefing will take place on Wednesday morning at Luthulli House.

The briefing will also serve to launch the league’s historic discussion documents ahead of its upcoming second National General Council (NGC), and to provide an update on preparations for the gathering.

“The 2nd NGC represents a critical moment for the youth league to chart the way forward in advancing the interests of young people and shaping the direction of the movement,” the ANCYL said in a statement.

The youth league said the discussion documents will guide robust engagements on key issues confronting South African youth, including youth unemployment and economic participation, transformation of the education system, crime and gender-based violence, food safety and the regulation of spaza shops and the role and expectations of the newly appointed National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) leadership

“These matters will form part of the broader agenda of the 2nd NGC, ensuring that the voice of young people is at the centre of national renewal and transformation,” the league said.

The second NGC anniversary celebration will take place from September 10 to 13, at Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberly, Northern Cape.

“The NGC will be followed by the celebration of the ANCYL's 81st Anniversary on September 13, 2025, which will take place at the Galeshewe Open Air Arena, Kimberly, Northern Cape.”

It will also reflect on the youth league and the challenges confronting young people.
