Addressing the media in Johannesburg on Monday, EFF leader Julius Malema reiterated his commitment that his party was more than ready to work with the ANC in the unity government that does not include the DA.

During a media briefing in Johannesburg on Monday, Julius Malema reaffirmed the Economic Freedom Fighters' (EFF) readiness to collaborate with the African National Congress (ANC) in a Government of National Unity (GNU), but emphasised that the Democratic Alliance (DA) should not be part of this arrangement. He asserted that government is going to collapse because Helen Zille says so.
“We have made it very clear that we are more than prepared to join the ANC and work in the Government of National Unity – but we can’t do it with the people who killed Chris Hani,” he said.
Malema indirectly applauded president Cyril Ramaphosa for not allowing the DA to toy around with them in the GNU.
“The DA thought they could bully the ANC in that GNU but the ANC is pushing forward. The ANC must know that we are just outside. We are on the doorstep. Once they remove the DA and want a partner, we are in,” he said.
He added, “There’s no government that is going to collapse because Zille says so.”
This comes as the tensions between the ANC and the DA continue to worsen. As much as they claim that their differences will not affect the relations in the GNU, the two parties are at loggerheads over a few policies.
The DA is also threatening to take legal action against President Cyril Ramaphosa who signed the policies into law.
The National Health Insurance (NHI), Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA), and Expropriation Act are some of the dividing lines between the ANC and DA.
Meanwhile, Gauteng ANC chairperson Panyaza Lesufi also launched a scathing attack against the DA and Zille urging them not to interfere with the ANC affairs.
This is because the DA has been on the ANC’s neck since the Expropriation Act was signed. This also included the NHI.
“We must not listen to a Zille or the DA that NHI must not be implemented,” Lesufi said, stating there must be no one who cannot receive proper healthcare service because they do not have medical aid.
Hani was killed in 1993 outside his home in Ekurhuleni by Janusz Waluś, a Polish right-wing extremist.
This was when the country was preparing for its first life-changing national elections in 1994. Waluś has since been set free after spending almost three decades in prison. He was deported back to Poland in December.
Last month, in an interview with eNCA, Walus revealed that he does not regret killing Hani.
Walus said it was necessary to kill Hani because he was threat to the then government.
"If the circumstances would have been like they've been, I would do it again... I have regrets that I took a husband and a father way. But politically, I have no regrets," he said.
