Influencer and former girlfriend of TV presenter, Katlego Maboe, Monique Muller, was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm, allegedly linked to gang activity in Cape Town.

Muller, along with several co-accused, appeared at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court last week on October 21, after being arrested in Ravensmead, Cape Town, last Sunday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the arrest to Cape Argus, stating: “In response to your media enquiry, kindly be advised that the person mentioned in your enquiry faces a charge for the illegal possession of a firearm together with other suspects and appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on October 21, where the case was remanded until October 30. ”

The Saturday Star reported that, according to sources, the home searched by police is allegedly linked to a suspected gang hitman.

The news has reignited public curiosity around Muller, who became a household name in 2020 during her high-profile split from Maboe.

Their breakup sparked national debate and saw Maboe’s career take a nosedive.

This was a result of Muller's posting of reportedly false Instagram stories in October 2020, accusing Maboe of domestic violence, damaging his reputation and income. Muller was accused of publishing a video alleging Maboe had extramarital affairs, transmitted an STD to her, and made other defamatory statements, including claims of sexual assault charges and public drinking.

The Expresso Morning Show presenter was temporarily removed from air, lost brand endorsements, and was dropped from SAFTA nominations. However, he has since reclaimed his public image and returned to television.
