A man was shot and killed on Sunday morning in Pinetown, west of Durban.

ALS Paramedics said they responded to multiple reports of a shooting just after 11 am.

Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, said they arrived on scene to find South African Police Service (SAPS) officers already there, with the road cordoned off.

"We were shown to a man who had been shot numerous times on the side of the road," ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said. "He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on the scene."

The victim is believed to be in his 50s.

At this stage, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear.

"The events leading up to the shooting are currently unknown, and we are awaiting further details from the police investigation," Jamieson added.

In a separate incident earlier this week, a deadly shootout on Argyle Road in Durban's CBD left one man dead and another critically injured. Jamieson confirmed that emergency teams arrived on scene at around 9am to find a vehicle riddled with bullets.

"A vehicle had been shot at numerous times, leaving both the passenger and driver with multiple gunshot wounds," Jamieson said. The paramedics attended to two men, believed to be in their 30s and 40s.

"However, one of them, the passenger, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and there was nothing that paramedics could do for him. He was deceased at the scene," he added.

The driver, despite being riddled with bullets, was treated on scene. "Once he was stabilised by advanced life support paramedics, he was rushed to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required."
