In a swift operation following a shooting incident in Abedere Street, Delft, on Thursday, September 11, law enforcement agencies have made significant strides towards curbing gun violence in the area.
The Anti-Gang Unit, in collaboration with the Delft Crime Prevention Unit, acted on leads received the following day, which led them to conduct a search at an address in Nyanga Street, N2 Gateway.
During the search, officers uncovered a unlicensed 9mm pistol along with ammunition. The operation culminated in the arrest of six suspects, aged between 19 and 29, who now face charges related to the possession of illegal firearms.

Furthermore, one of the suspects is being interrogated in connection with the murder linked to the initial shooting incident.
Once formally charged, these individuals are set to appear at the Bellville Magistrates’ Court, where their fate will be determined.
In an unrelated yet equally alarming occurrence, members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team, alongside the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, were actively engaged in crime prevention initiatives in Gugulethu when they observed a male attempting to evade police attention near the cemetery on NY108.
Upon approaching him, officers conducted a search that revealed a unlicensed 9mm pistol devoid of a serial number in his possession.
Further investigations led to the search of three additional males, during which another 9mm pistol and a shotgun were confiscated. None of the suspects, aged 24, 43, and 45, could provide the necessary firearm permits, resulting in their arrest for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. These suspects are expected to make an appearance in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
