Businessman accosted and robbed by armed assailants inside FNB at Platinun Park

Police in Polokwane have launched a manhunt after two armed assailants robbed a man inside a bank in Bendor, Limpopo, on Saturday morning.
Sources told IOL that the brazen robbery happened inside FNB branch at Platinum Park, Bendor, in Polokwane.
Provincial police spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the victim, a businessman, was about to deposit the undisclosed amount of money.
"The victim entered the bank to deposit money from his business in Giyani. Two male suspects posing as customers allegedly approached him; and one pulled out a firearm. They overpowered him and took his bag with an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone,” said Ledwaba.
Police added that the robbers made a swift getaway.
“The two suspects fled the scene in a silver (Volkswagen) Polo Vivo,” said Ledwaba.
Police are now appealing for information from community members.
“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact investigating officer Colonel Nkele Mabotja on 082 585 4604, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, or the nearest police station. Information can also be shared anonymously on the My SAPS App,” said Ledwaba.
In 2023, IOL reported that police in Gauteng were investigating a case of armed robbery after a man was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash inside a bank at Hercules in Tshwane.
At the time, Gauteng provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi told IOL that the man was in the bank to deposit some money when he was accosted by the robbers.
“It is reported that on the morning of November 23, 2023, the victim was inside the bank to deposit money when two unknown men approached him at gunpoint and threatened him,” Nevhuhulwi said.
“He was reportedly escorted outside by the suspects who then robbed him before fleeing the scene with a silver grey (Volkswagen) Polo vehicle.”
