Police in Maleboho, Capricorn District, Limpopo, are investigating a case of murder, attempted murder, and defeating the ends of justice following a gruesome incident at Wegdraai Village.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the incident occurred on Monday at around 11 p.m.

“According to preliminary reports, a 55-year-old man was allegedly attacked after the suspects, who are brothers, received information suggesting that the victim was romantically involved with the elder brother’s girlfriend.

“The two suspects proceeded to the homestead where the victim and a 38-year-old woman were present. On arrival, a confrontation ensued, during which the elder brother allegedly attacked the man with an axe and severely injured the woman,” said Ledwaba.

After the attack, the brothers fled the scene, prompting police to launch an extensive manhunt. Paramedics certified the 55-year-old man dead at the scene, while the woman was rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the younger brother, aged 20, who was found at his residence. Police also recovered the axe allegedly used during the attack, which the 20-year-old man had attempted to wash in an effort to destroy evidence.

The 51-year-old elder brother remains at large, and police have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend him.
