Eastern Cape mass shooting: Five murders in five hours

Five people have died in shooting incidents in the Eastern Cape

Police in the Eastern Cape are searching for unknown gunmen who killed five people in separate incidents. 

The shootings were less than five hours apart. 

Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said the motive for both incidents is not known at this stage. 

In the first incident, the bodies of three men were found in a house in Fairview on Wednesday. 

 

“According to reports, SAPS Walmer responded to a complaint at approximately 9.47 pm in Orego Street, Fairview.

"On arrival at the scene, the members noticed that the entrance to the fence was broken; they further noticed that the window in the lounge was shattered. 

"Upon further inspection, they found the bodies of three males in the main bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds and multiple open wounds to the head,” Janse Van Rensburg said. 

She added that police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.

"The names of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have officially identified them,” Janse Van Rensburg said. 

Police urge anyone with information related to this incident to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Mondi Sitole at 082 457 2812 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111. 

Hours later, police in Despatch were called following a double murder on Thursday morning in Kingstown. 

“According to reports, SAPS Despatch received a complaint of a shooting in Dukubana Street, Kingstown, at approximately 1.05 am. On arrival at the residence, they found the bodies of two adult males with gunshot wounds. At this stage, the motive for the attack remains unknown, and no arrests have been made,” Janse Van Rensburg said. 

She said police launched a manhunt and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation. 

The names of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have officially identified them. 

There have been no arrests in both incidents.
