A 33-year-old man was killed in a hail of bullets in the Greenwood Park area of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday morning.

Police spokesperson, Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said Greenwood Park police have opened a case of murder following the violent incident.

She said reports indicate that the victim was in his vehicle when he was ambushed by two suspects who were driving a white vehicle.

"They shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene. The motive for the killing is unknown," said Ngcobo.

KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said medics from KZN VIP and another private ambulance service worked to stabilise the critically injured man. 

"Due to the nature of his injuries, the patient was declared deceased on scene."

KZNVIP extended its condolences to the victim's family.
