Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit detectives are investigating a triple murder after the bodies of three men were discovered in Green Park informal settlement in Mfuleni on Monday.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said officers responded to the scene at about 11am and found the victims lying in close proximity to one another in front of a shack.

“The men, aged 21, 23 and 32, sustained multiple injuries consistent with assault and stabbing,” Traut said.

“According to information gathered at the scene, residents reportedly heard shouting during the early hours of the morning, but the bodies were only discovered later.”

Traut added the motive for the attack is unknown and no arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, three suspects between the ages of 17 and 49 were expected to make their first appearance at the Athlone Magistrate’s court yesterday, after they were apprehended by members of the Flying Squad following a shootout at the Vlei informal settlement in Athlone on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala said officers responded to a complaint of an ongoing shooting in the area. On their arrival, officers gathered intelligence which led them to the address where the three suspects were arrested.

Two firearms with 73-rounds of ammunition were confiscated and booked in as evidence.
