The City of Cape Town impounded two digger loaders that were abandoned on site after law enforcement officials responded to reports of illegal sand mining in Khayelitsha.
Officers were first called out on Thursday following ongoing complaints about the activity in the area. On arrival, they found the heavy machinery on site, but the operators fled, taking the keys with them.
Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason said the vehicles are believed to have been hired.
