A former Harvester Primary School teacher has been sentenced after pleading guilty to sexually grooming a minor after she sent a former student an explicit video of herself.

The accused, who was a former Grade R teacher at the school, was sentenced on March 27 after she entered a plea agreement with the State at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court.

This comes after she sent a video to the then Grade 7 child, which was later leaked.

Court documents read: “On or about 25 May 2025 at or near Cedar Close Westridge, Mitchells Plain, the said accused did unlawfully and intentionally commit an act with [the 13-year-old] by exposing him to pornography by sending a nude, explicit video of a sexual nature of herself, in which the said accused is stimulating her breasts with the intention to stimulate erotic feelings on the part of child with the intention to encourage or persuade the child complainant, or to diminish or reduce any resistance or unwillingness on the part of the child complainant to the said child’s phone.”

The accused was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, meaning she will not serve jail time unless she commits a similar offence during that period.

She was also placed under three years of correctional supervision, a strict community-based sentence that includes monitoring, restrictions, and rehabilitation programmes instead of direct imprisonment.

The court further ordered that her name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
