A Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta) rank manager was killed along with a female passenger in a brutal, suspected taxi hit near the Palm taxi rank in Delft South.
According to reports, the rank manager, Zwelakhe Lingani, was driving a vehicle near his office at the Palm taxi rank in Delft South on Monday evening when gunmen opened fire.
The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies and heads. Reports further stated that there were 85 x R5 cartridges and 13 x 9mm cartridges found on the scene.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said that Delft detectives are investigating two counts of murder.
“Delft police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Monday evening, 16 March 2026, at about 8:15pm, near the Palm taxi rank, Delft South, and upon arrival on the scene, they found a 50-year-old male and an adult female who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies," Twigg said.
“Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. According to reports, the victims were driving in a silver Toyota Fortuner when they were approached by unknown suspects who shot them before fleeing the scene.
“The motive for the attack is believed to be taxi-related.”
Codeta spokesperson Nceba Enge confirmed that Lingani was a member of their association.
The shooting incident comes days after three people were gunned down at the Delft taxi rank on March 12.
Shots were fired around 6.15am at the Voorbrug taxi rank as commuters were making their way to work, when a Toyota Quantum pulled up and the occupants opened fire.
One of the victims belonged to Codeta, and the other victim was a taxi owner who belonged to the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata), while a bystander was also killed.
