THE DA has snatched two wards from the ANC during this week’s by-elections in Cederberg and Langerberg wards.
The Electoral Commission (IEC) Western Cape conducted by-elections on Tuesday in Wards 4 in both municipalities.
A total of six candidates contested the by-election in Cederberg.
“The overall results indicate that the DA won the seat previously held by the ANC since the 2021 Local Government Elections,” Provincial Electoral Officer Michael Hendrickse said.
The party’s Paulus Jacobus Strauss secured 35.03% of the total votes cast. The overall voter turnout for the by-election was 54.06%.
In Langerberg, four candidates contested the by-election.
The results show that the DA won the seat previously held by the ANC following the by-election held on 15 October 2025.
DA’s Daniël Barranor Baadjies won the ward with 40.47% of the total votes cast. The overall voter turnout for the by-election was 55.22%.
DA Western Cape leader Tertuis Simmers said voters in the province have endorsed the DA’s delivery record.
“The DA secured almost double the vote received in the last Local Government Elections in both wards, taking both away from the ANC.
“These breakthrough wins show the voters’ confidence in our results-driven service delivery and integrity where we already govern in the Western Cape,” Simmers said.
“We congratulate the DA West Region leadership and the newly-elected DA Councillors Paul Strauss (Cederberg) and Daniel Baadjies (Langeberg). We believe they will be ideal flagbearers of the DA’s trend of solid governance.”
Hendrickse thanked all registered voters who participated during Special Votes on Monday and the by-election on Tuesday.
