An alleged domestic violence incident has sent shockwaves through the Bonteheuwel community after a woman was stabbed to death in her home on Tuesday.
The woman, who is believed to be well-known in the community, was stabbed multiple times just after 3pm.
Police spokesperson, Frederick van Wyk, said circumstances surrounding the stabbing incident at a premises in Assegaai Avenue in Bonteheuwel, in which an adult female was stabbed and fatally injured, are under investigation.
"The victim sustained stab wounds to the head and the back of her shoulder. Bishop Lavis police registered a murder case for investigation,” he said.
Van Wyk said the woman was declared dead on arrival at the local hospital.
“According to reports, the members received a complaint of a person who was stabbed and declared deceased at a local hospital. On their arrival, they were shown the body of the deceased, who was declared dead on arrival. The motive for this stabbing incident has yet to be determined,” he said.
No arrests have been made, and police urged anyone with information to come forward.
Bonteheuwel Ward Councillor, Angus McKenzie, expressed his anger at the violent murder.
McKenzie alleged the suspect is the woman's husband who was on the run.
“What I can assure the community is this: every single law enforcement and SAPS officer in the Bonteheuwel area is actively on the lookout for him. There will be no hiding. He will be found, arrested, and charged. Let me be absolutely clear, gender-based violence has no place in Bonteheuwel. It will never be normalised, excused, or tolerated in our community,” McKenzie said.
The victim, who was known to McKenzie, has been described as present, committed, and deeply passionate about her community.
