Police have launched a manhunt to find those behind the murders of three men who were shot and killed in the parking lot at Gordon’s Bay Mall.

The men between the ages of 40 and 45, were gunned down in what police believe to be a gang-related incident on Tuesday at around 9.30pm.

According to police information, they were approached by gunmen who opened multiple shots, killing all three before fleeing the scene.

Two victims died inside the vehicle while another died outside of the car, with his body found lying on the pavement.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the circumstances surrounding the triple murder are under investigation.

The victims' identities have not yet been released, pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.

“Official reports indicate that the deceased men were in the parking lot at Gordon’s Bay Mall... when unknown gunmen travelling in a vehicle approached them and shots were fired.

“Two victims died inside the vehicle and another outside the car. The suspects later fled in their vehicle.

“The incident is believed to be gang related.”

Ward councillor Sean Stacey was stunned by the incident.

He said: “I think everyone is still coming to terms with what happened. We are all surprised and deeply saddened by it.

“This is not a very common occurrence. I heard that some people were still at the mall when the incident happened, I saw in some community groups but it might have been people who were using the ATM because you can still access the ATM even if the mall is closed.”

Abie Isaacs, Chairperson of the Cape Flats Safety Forum called for an immediate response to the escalating gang violence from government.

“We as the Cape Flats Safety Forum condemn these violent shootings in the strongest terms.

“We once again call for the deployment of the SANDF and to declare a State of Disaster too. What is concerning is that it seems gang violence has moved to other areas now, but we hope SAPS have a stabilising team in place,” Isaacs said.
