GAUTENG police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni says his officers are closing in on the two remaining suspects in the murder of 12 people, including a three-year-old child at Saulsville Hostel in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

This after police arrested a 32-year-old in Limpopo on Sunday following a coordinated operation between Gauteng and Limpopo police. The December 6 attack also left 13 people wounded.

“We are confident that the remaining two suspects will be arrested so that these perpetrators can answer to the heinous crimes that they have committed,” Mthombeni said.

During the arrest, the team recovered an unlicensed firearm, hand gun, believed to have been used in the commission of the multiple murders, said the police.

The firearm will be taken to the Forensic Science Laboratory for ballistic analysis.

"The team, comprising various SAPS specialised units, including Crime Intelligence, during investigations traced the suspect who was travelling to Botlokwa in Limpopo. They called the police in Limpopo and gave the description of the suspect and the vehicle he was travelling in," the police said.

"The 32-year-old suspect was intercepted by the Limpopo Tracking Team on the R101 Road in Westenburg precinct.”

While the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, the suspected shooter was expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday for charges related to possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“He will then be transferred to Gauteng to face the full might of the law. The manhunt for the remaining two suspects is continuing".

Meanwhile, the police confirmed on Monday that two people of interest were being questioned over  the murder of media personality Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili said: “The duo was picked up this morning around 2am from a hostel in Soweto. Investigations are continuing.”
