Fatal aircraft crash at Cape Town's Morningstar airfield claims two lives

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA)’s Accidents and Incidents Investigations Division (AIID) confirmed it is investigating a fatal accident that involved a Sling 2 (registration ZU-FWF) at the Morningstar Airfield on Sunday morning.

Investigators were dispatched to the Morningstar Airfield in Cape Town on Sunday following a fatal aircraft crash that claimed the lives of two occupants.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA)’s Accidents and Incidents Investigations Division (AIID) confirmed it is investigating a fatal accident that involved a Sling 2 (registration ZU-FWF).

“There were two occupants (a flight instructor and a private licence holder) on board the aircraft when it departed from the airfield at approximately 11am before it crashed shortly after take off,” the AIID said.

“The two occupants were fatally wounded while the aircraft itself was substantially damaged during the impact sequence."

The AIID added that investigators have been dispatched to the site and a preliminary report will be published on the SACAA website 30 days from the day of the accident.

AIID extended its condolences to family and friends of the deceased.
