“Gangsterism has no place in our society. The SAPS will continue to exert pressure on these criminal networks until every individual involved in violent crimes is brought to justice.”
These were the words of Western Cape Provincial SAPS Commissioner, Thembisile Patekile following another triple murder in Mitchells Plain.
Western Cape police spokesperson, Andrè Traut confirmed they launched a murder investigation following the discovery of three bodies inside a silver VW Polo on the corners of Hillcrest Road and Park Way, Montclair, Lentegeur, on Wednesday morning at around 6am.
“The victims, two men and a woman, all in their twenties, sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Preliminary information suggests that the incident is gang-related. Detectives have been assigned to the case and are pursuing several leads in a bid to track down those responsible,” said Traut.
Patekile condemned the “senseless act of violence” and reiterated the SAPS’ “unwavering commitment to dismantling gangs and rooting out those who continue to terrorise communities”.
Meanwhile, on Monday, police in Delft arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the murder of three people in Sandrivier Street, Leiden, on Sunday. The arrest, carried out by members of Operation Shanela II, followed up on intelligence linking the suspect to the incident. The suspect was apprehended at around 7pm in Bordaair Street, Voorbug, Delft. He was found in possession of a firearm holster and R7 400 in cash. Police said both the holster and the cash were confiscated, and more arrests were expected to follow as the investigation continues.
