Fish Hoek residents have been urged to be vigilant following the death of a 22-year-old woman who was found deceased in her home, in a crime scene consistent with a robbery.
Fish Hoek police on Monday confirmed that they were investigating a case of murder in connection with the incident. No arrests had been made.
“Fish Hoek SAPS informs that a case of murder is being investigated, which occurred in Echo Road, Fish Hoek. The incident was discovered on Friday, 7 November, when friends were trying to trace the deceased by visiting her premises. The deceased was located inside her place of residence. The crime scene is consistent with a burglary/house robbery crime,” said Fish Hoek police spokesperson, Peter Middleton.
Fish Hoek Community Police Forum (CPF) extended their condolences to the family.
“We extend our sincere condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.”
The CPF cautioned residents to remain vigilant, take extra security precautions and report any suspicious activity to local authorities or neighbourhood watch members.
Middleton further emphasised the importance of being aware of one’s surroundings when arriving home or while at home and urged residents to take extra precautions by identifying possible entry points that could be used to access their homes.
“If in a situation where there is a home invasion, try to stay calm and not give cause for a situation to escalate. Get to know your neighbours, NHW members and security providers in the area. Always report suspicious activities, regardless of whether or not it is of a criminal nature,” he said.
The public were also urged to refrain from making “unverified comments that make the investigation more difficult to follow up on, as well as can cause further emotional distress towards friends and family”.
Anyone with information that can assist police with their investigation is asked to contact the investigating detective, Warrant Officer Stafford, on 082 469 2563.
