THE Patriotic Alliance (PA) has welcomed an investigation that cleared Kenny Kunene of any wrongdoing related to his controversial visit to the Sandton residence of controversial businessman Katiso Molefe in July.

The high-profile probe, led by leading law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH), found “no evidence or witness testimony that refutes the version” given by Kunene, who had maintained that his presence at the residence was solely for journalistic purposes.

According to the CDH report, Kunene had facilitated an exclusive interview between journalist Jabulani Binase and Molefe for Africa News Global (ANG).

The investigation included interviews with all key parties - Kunene, Binase, a facilitator referred to as “Jabu,” and ANG Editor-in-Chief Steve Motale - and examined media content, documents, and public records.

The visit, which attracted widespread media attention, took a dramatic turn when SAPS unexpectedly arrested Molefe on unrelated charges.

However, the report affirmed that Molefe was not a fugitive at the time and that the meeting was arranged in good faith for journalistic purposes.

PA President Gayton McKenzie declared: “God is great, I knew it,” welcoming Kunene back to his full role within the party and the City of Johannesburg.

Kunene’s suspension has been lifted, and he is expected to resume his duties as Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Transport.

“This independent review confirms what we have always maintained: there was no misconduct,” the PA stated.

“We commissioned this investigation to uphold transparency and accountability - principles that are central to our mission.”

The party has called on opposition figures to respect the outcome of the impartial probe and cease “baseless allegations” that divert attention from pressing national issues.

The PA reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption, promoting economic justice, and delivering for South Africans.

Molefe has been charged with the 2022 assassination of music producer and club owner Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka. He also has a pending case in another court relating to the murder of Armand Swart, who was shot dead in April last year.
