Another three lives have been lost as the Cape Flats continued to be terrorised by gang violence in the last 48 hours.

Shootings were reported in Mitchells Plain, Manenberg, Delft and Belgravia.

In Westridge, Mitchells Plain, SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed a triple murder.

On Wednesday night, Ebrahim “Ebie” Karbary, Ganief Tofar and Keagan “Rasta” Mou were gunned down at around 8:20pm on the corner of Bonfoi and Ganzekraal close, Westridge.

Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) Norman Jantjes told the Daily Voice that they are worried as there is no end to gun violence in the area.

Jantjes said: “We ask the community if they have information to please share it with the police and also to remain vigilant and if they see any suspicious behaviour to report it with the police.”

Yesterday residents were alerted to be careful as shootings were reported in Elsies River, Hanover Park, Delft and it was said to have been ‘raining bullets’ in Canal Road, Belgravia.

A concerned mother from Elsies River said: “The shooting is worse now than it was before. They are shooting all over and I need to keep my boys in the house, it is not even safe for them going to school or the library and it is exam time now.

“We have to warn our families to not even visit us.”

Another resident from Delft said: “We are living in fear. You are not safe in the house or outside of the house, we need to fall flat anytime of the day because they are shooting in broad daylight. Cape Town is a hell hole.

“We need the army to step in and put the Cape Flats on lockdown because it seems like Saps is losing the battle to these criminals.”

According to police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk, Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) officers had their hands full in Manenberg, where the Hard Livings and Clever Kids gangs have been engaged in a running battle.

They apprehended four suspects - two for illegal gun possession and two for illegal possession of ammunition.

All suspects were detained at Manenberg SAPS, and are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates court soon on their respective charges.

Anyone with any information on crime is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.
