The City of Tshwane is gearing up to host the highly anticipated Tshwane Investment Summit, set to take place on Wednesday at Menlyn.

The summit aims to attract a minimum of R5 billion in investments to the capital city, further solidifying its position as a prime investment destination.

Sarah Mabotsa, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, said the summit is part of the city’s multi-party coalition government’s drive to attract new investment and investors.

“The Investment Summit’s theme, Tshwane Rising, reflects the rise of the capital city in South Africa and the world.”

Mabotsa said the event is closely linked to the Tshwane Economic Revitalisation Strategy, a comprehensive roadmap designed to boost economic growth in the city.

The strategy has identified 10 priority economic sectors for support, with the summit focusing on tourism, construction, automotive, agriculture, and agro-processing.

Mabotsa highlighted the city’s impressive credentials, citing its status as South Africa’s safest city, as confirmed by the SA Cities Network studies.

Furthermore, she said, crime rates have shown a notable decline in 2025, according to the SAPS quarterly statistics.

She noted that the city’s economic progress is also reflected in its unemployment rates, which have dropped by 4.5% since last year.

Mabotsa said the Quarterly Labour Force survey reveals that unemployment in Tshwane decreased from 35.3% in Q2 2024 to 30.8% in Q2 2025.

As a global diplomatic hub, Tshwane hosts a significant number of embassies and foreign missions, second only to Washington DC.

The city is also one of the largest metro economies in South Africa, contributing around 9-10% to the country’s GDP.

Mabotsa emphasised Tshwane’s unique features, noting that it is Africa’s largest and wildest city, spanning 6,345 km².

“Tshwane is the third-largest city in the world by area after New York and Tokyo/Yokohama, and is the only city globally that hosts a Big 5 Game Reserve. This makes us Africa’s largest, wildest city,” she said.
