Five killed in shootings in Mitchells Plain, Muizenberg

IN another bloody weekend for Cape Town, five people were killed in separate shooting incidents in Rocklands and Muizenberg.

On Thursday evening around 9pm, two men aged 37 and 40 were shot and killed in Viscount Street, Rocklands in a gang-related incident.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “Mitchells Plain police responded to a complaint of a shooting in Viscount Street, Rocklands, on Thursday night, August 14, 2025, at about 9pm.

"Upon arrival on the scene, they found the bodies of two males, aged 37 and 40, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds."

"According to reports a black and grey vehicle stopped next to the victims and the occupant started shooting at the victims before fleeing the scene.

"Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is gang-related.

"Mitchells Plain detectives are investigating two counts of murder.”

Meanwhile the informal settlement of Xakabantu in Muizenberg was rocked by three murders on Saturday, days after a deadly shooting in Overcome Heights which claimed the lives of four people.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said policing in the area has been intensified to prevent any further violence.

Traut said: "Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of three bodies, one male and two females, aged between 29 and 32, at Mike Place, Xakabantu in Muizenberg late (Saturday) night at around 11:30pm.

"A fourth victim, a male, survived after sustaining a gunshot wound and managed to escape. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.

"The motive for the attack remains unclear, and detectives are pursuing all available leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."
