A SUSPECTED robber thought he had evaded arrest when he hid in the bushes while his two accomplices were not so lucky in Kenton-On-Sea.
That was until police turned to the services of an off-duty four-legged officer, Adze.
The seven-year-old Belgian Shepherd police patrol dog showed diligence, tracking down the suspect in the bushes. He was found to be in possession of a backpack with cigarettes and a speed point machine.
Police spokesperson Majola Nkohli said their officers, with the help of a private security company, initially arrested two suspected robbers who had stormed into a spaza shop in Marseille.
“They allegedly shot and wounded the owner. It is believed that they then stole cash, and a few other items before fleeing the scene,” said Nkohli.
When the third suspect fled to the bushes, Adze wasted no time - locating and following the scent trail of the suspect.
“A suspect was apprehended after being found hiding in a dense shrub. A backpack with cigarettes and a speed point machine was confiscated. The three men, Thamsanqa David (33), Alizwa Tsitsi (19), and Anele Tshukulana (25) briefly appeared in the Alexandria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 1 July 2025 on charges of attempted murder and business robbery, and were remanded in custody. The matter was transferred to the Kenton-On-Sea magistrate's court on 2 July 2025 for a bail application,” said Nkohli.
