THE driver of a Porsche forfeited the luxury of his sports car when he was arrested for allegedly being more than twice over the legal alcohol limit while driving on FW de Klerk Boulevard.

Officers were attending to an accident between the Porsche and a minibus taxi driver in the CBD when they tested the driver for alcohol. The reading of 0.52 meant that he was more than twice the legal limit of 0.24mg/1000ml.

Safety and security mayco member JP Smith said the accident could have had serious consequences with innocent passengers sustaining injuries.

“This is but the latest incident involving luxury sports cars in recent months, and certainly not a good start to the week. The fact that the driver was arrested early in the morning and with an alcohol reading of more than double the legal limit makes this offence even more alarming. Our enforcement agencies will not tolerate lawlessness and will continue to arrest suspects who break the law. We all have a responsibility to contribute towards a safer road environment.”

In another incident, the Cape Argus recently reported that a McLaren 570S filmed on CCTV at a high speed was believed to have reached approximately 200 km/h and crashed along High Level Road, Sea Point. The driver, identified as Nigerian rapper Prince Daniel Obioma, also known as 3GAR, took to his Instagram account following the accident, where he posted images of his bloodied face and thanked God for sparing his life and claimed that he was avoiding a homeless person when the accident took place.

Before that incident, dental surgeon from the Eastern Cape, Dr Ncumisa Mdlokolo, was killed by a speeding Ferrari while walking with her sister in Buitengracht Street.

The driver, identified as David Polet, is accused of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was arrested and charged and granted bail of R10 000 by the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.
