A TEENAGE boy from Danielskuil has been sentenced to five years in prison after targeting and raping a 10-year-old girl in two shocking assaults.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane, the disturbing incidents took place in 2023.
On July 14 that year, the young girl had gone to a nearby tuck shop, when the 17-year-old dragged her to a nearby shanty, where he raped her. In a second incident, he forcefully took her to his house, where he raped her again and warned her to keep quiet.
But the brave young girl found the courage to speak out. After she confided in her mother, the matter was reported to the police, sparking an investigation by the Postmasburg SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
Nearly two years later, justice has been served. On March 24, 2025, the Postmasburg Regional Court sentenced the accused to five years’ imprisonment and declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
The ZF Mgcawu district commissioner, Major-General Monica Sebili, praised the relentless work of the investigating officer, Detective Constable Boitshepo Bele of the Postmasburg FCS, who ensured that the case was thoroughly investigated and the victim’s voice was heard in court.
Sergeant Shemane said the Northern Cape SAPS has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the most vulnerable and bringing perpetrators of gender-based violence to justice.
