The police anti-gang unit swooped in on a house in Volvo Street, Beacon Valley on Tuesday January 21 and confiscated 80 000 mandrax tablets.
The Western Cape police anti-gang unit confiscated 80 000 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R4 million while conducting stop and search operations in Beacon Valley on Tuesday January 21.
Provincial police spokesperson, warrant officer Joseph Swartbooi, said the police found the drugs hidden inside a false compartment in a Hyundai light delivery vehicle parked on the premises of a house in Volvo Street.
“The members pursued information about a set off point for drugs located in Beacon Valley. Armed with the information that the identified address is a stronghold of one of the major gangs in Cape Town, they operationalised the information at their disposal.
“Upon inspecting the vehicle, they found a false compartment, opened the compartment by force and found 80 000 mandrax tablets hidden inside the compartment,” he said.
Police arrested a man, 26 and woman, 33, for dealing in drugs.

Yesterday’s bust comes a few weeks after police conducted another successful raid on the home of a suspected gang leader in Beacon Valley on Saturday December 28, 2024, and netted R1.5 million in mandrax, cocaine and tik.
