A man has been caught numerous times allegedly masturbating on Strand beach.
Cape Town - Law enforcement officers had to transport a man who was allegedly masturbating at the beach in Strand at the weekend back to his community.
The man, who is believed to be from Khayelitsha, was allegedly first caught walking around with his pants down and apparently kissing trees near the beach on Friday, according to AfriForum Strand Patrol.
KC Gericke from AfriForum Strand Patrol said: “We received a call as well as WhatsApp messages from two different community members complaining about a man sitting against the promenade's wall, while masturbating in front of the public. This is the same guy who was walking around and kissing trees in the area.
“We told him to leave and then the following day on Saturday we found him again and he was masturbating while looking at the females on the beach. We then called law enforcement to make an arrest. They took him to the police station, but the police said they can’t take him in and we left it at that.”
Gericke said the man was caught again on Sunday standing in front of three little girls and masturbating.
“Law enforcement was called in while the AfriForum Strand Patrol team came from both sides, and when he saw law enforcement he started running. Eventually we cornered him and law enforcement dispatched a van. We asked him where he stays, and he said he stays in Khayelitsha. Law enforcement loaded him in the back of their van and took him back to Khayelitsha,” Gericke said.
The patrol group has appealed to residents to report the man if they see him engaging in this behaviour, or any type of crime taking place in the area.
