From street vendor to multimillionaire: Lotto jackpot winner has the ticket to his dreams
Cape Town – A Cape Town street vendor says he can now build a home for his family, after claiming his Lotto jackpot winnings of over R86 million.
The man became the country’s latest multimillionaire after winning Saturday’s massive R86 938 426.64 Lotto jackpot.
The man came forward after realising on Sunday that he a ticket he bought at Shoprite in Durbanville had the winning numbers. He had chosen the numbers manually.
“The first thing we did when I realised I had won, we prayed and thanked the Lord. Only my wife and children know that we have won,” he said.
“I play the lottery games twice a month, and I mix my numbers each time I play. This time around I specifically played Lotto and not the other games, as I went with my gut feeling.
“I have never won this much money before. The most I won from a game was R450.
“All my life I have always dreamt of winning a big jackpot, and now I can build a house from my family,” he said.
In his spare time, he gives motivational talks at schools.
When asked about the one thing he would start doing now that he couldn’t do before, he said: “I can now start to relax.”
Ithuba chief executive Charmaine Mabuza congratulated the winner.
“It is encouraging to see players who still have hope and play our National Lottery games. It is even more significant when they win our jackpots and have their dreams come true,” Mabuza said.
