CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has launched its rates and tariffs calculator, aimed at assisting residents to obtain a rough estimate of their monthly rates and tariffs.

The City said the estimate is based on numerous factors, including property size, water and electricity consumption and refuse collection.

"Our new rates and tariffs calculator will serve as a tool to assist residents with their monthly planning and budgeting. Tough times continue for us all, with a very slow economic recovery after the two-year long national Covid-19 state of disaster, soaring fuel prices and rising inflation. The City will, however, continue to do its very best to assist residents where it is possible to do so," said the City’s mayoral committee member for Finance, Siseko Mbandezi.

The City added the calculator was for residential properties only and served to give an estimate of the municipal rates and tariffs payable based on the information residents provided.

The amounts, which are calculated, do not constitute the actual municipal bill, but provide an estimate for information purposes, the City advised.

Residents were also reminded they had until May 3 to comment on the Draft Budget which detailed things like the City's planned spending for the new financial year, including tariff increases, among others.

The comments would then be considered and the Draft Budget will be tabled at Council on May 25, 2022.

"Please remember that the new financial year starts in July. We thank residents for their continued support," Mbandezi added.
