Modack tells court of ’unfavourable conditions’
ALLEGED underworld figure Nafiz Modack wants to be jailed at the notorious Pollsmoor Prison, complaining of “unfavourable conditions” at the unknown location where is currently being held in custody.
He raised the issue through his attorney Dirk Uys when he appeared at his Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Uys informed the court that Modack wasn’t being held at either Goodwood police holding cells nor Pollsmoor prison.
He claimed Modack had been made to sleep on a “cold concrete” floor which has caused difficulties with his kidneys.
Modack also complained that the food he had been given was not prepared in a halaal manner, especially during the Muslim holy month of Ramadaan.
“That’s a major problem,” Uys said.
Modack appeared alongside his co-accused Anti-Gang Unit officer Ashley Tabisher on charges of corruption.
The State alleges that a corrupt relationship existed between the pair as Tabisher was said to have passed on crime intelligence information relating to police operations, to criminals, including Modack.
Modack has also been linked and is being investigated for his alleged role in the attempted hit on attorney William Booth, as well as attempted murder of slain top cop Charl Kinnear in 2019.
He has not been linked or charged with the murder of Kinnear.
The separate cases against Modack are expected to be consolidated at the Blue Downs Regional Court on May 14 before he may pursue a bail application.
