N1 still partially closed after bus crash near Laingsburg

Cape Town – The N1 remains partially closed between Laingsburg and Touws River in the Karoo around noon today following a bus crash.

A bus from Eldo Coaches transporting 62 people overturned about 10km from Laingsburg.

Western Cape Transport Department spokesperson Jandre Bakker said six people were seriously injured, three moderately and 47 walked away with slight injuries. One woman reportedly landed under the bus.

The road has been closed since early this morning while emergency crews removed the wreckage. The cause of the incident is unknown at this stage.

One lane has since been opened, with a stop-and-go in place, but traffic is backed up significantly.
