Police are investigating three separate shack fires that claimed the lives of three people yesterday.
The City’s Fire and Rescue Service said a man was killed in a fire which started just after midnight in Sweet Home Farm, Philippi. The fire destroyed two homes and displaced six people.
In Curlew Street, Atlantis, at around 1am, another man was killed when a structure caught alight.
At 2.30am in Firgrove, a man was killed after the structure he inhabited had been destroyed.
“The causes of each of these incidents remains undetermined. All of the incidents were handed over to police for investigation,” the City said.
Last weekend raging fires killed four people. A fire broke out in Pelican Park and gutted 10 shacks, leaving 40 people destitute.
In Ncesde Street, Philippi East, a residential fire killed three people – two women, aged 25 and 55, and a man, also 55 years old.
