Photo enthusiasts in 16 teams from top camera brands ventured to selected locations around the city on Saturday in an image quest to capture Cape Town's hidden gems in a race-against-the-clock photography challenge.
Armed with gear from Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Leica, Sigma, Tamron or GoPro, a single clue to the secret locations and their creativity, amateur and professional shooters competed to capture sights, moments and portraits that highlight and expose the location and its characteristics.
By midday images of each location had to be filed, edited and handed over to the event organisers in preparation for the exhibition later that day.
The organisers then printed, framed, curated and exhibited these photographs in Amplify Studio's beautiful gallery for the teams, friends and media.
Images were judged by ex-fashion photographer for Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue Patrick de Mervelec, Prolific People, fashion, social documentary and art photographer Roy Zetisky and Independent Media's photo content editor Ian
Landsberg.
After careful deliberation through an incredible selection of images, the judges picked Salaam Keyser’s soulful portrait dubbed "Mercy" as the winning image from team Leica Life.
The team members were Morgan Trimble, Salaam Keyser and Greg Rhoode.
Second place went to Matthew Eaton of the Sigma Society team for his contemplative image titled "Hard lungs, harder life," and the third place winner was Gideon Heller from the Nikon Cape Clickers for his insightful colour image dubbed "Liberal Motion".
Proceeds from the silent auction will go to funding the education of young photographers trying to break into photography as a career through a programme called Amplify AIR: Artist-In-Residence programme.
