Suspected husband killer bust at beach

Cape Town – A woman wanted for her husband’s murder was nabbed at the beach on New Year’s Day after her former sister-in-law pointed her out to cops.

Police say the 23-year-old suspect has been on the run since the November killing.

She’s being detained at the Philippi Police Station on murder charges after members of the City’s Marine Law Enforcement Unit arrested her on Sunday.

She was busted at the Strandfontein Pavilion in connection with her husband’s death after being spotted by the sister of the deceased, who was also on the beach at the time.

Law enforcement’s principal inspector Wayne Dyason said the woman has managed to evade arrest because cops couldn’t track her down.

But her former sister-in-law spotted her among the multitude of beachgoers and tipped off law enforcement officials patrolling the beach.

Dyason said officers took the suspect to the Strandfontein Police Station.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed the arrest and that the suspect is to appear in the Athlone Magistrates' Court soon: “This office can confirm that a 23-year-old female suspect was arrested on a charge of murder earlier [on Sunday] by members of City Law Enforcement for an incident which was perpetrated during November 2016.

“Once charged, the suspect is due to make a court appearance in Athlone.”
