KHAYELITSHA Police Station Commander Mkhuseli Nkwitshi has promised the Nkanini informal settlement residents that all leads on Anelisa Daluze’s disappearance will be followed up.
Daluze went missing on January 30 after she visited a tavern to celebrate her 21st birthday. Since then no progress has been made by the police, said her mother Vathiswa Daluze.
Supported by Ilitha Labantu, about 50 residents marched to the area’s Cluster Commander Johan Brand to demand pressure be put on police to investigate the case which was reported on February 2.
Daluze claims people last seen with Anelisa were never questioned. “They are known to the community and their names and addresses were given to the investigating officer but no progress has been made since then,” Daluze said.
Nkwitshi said: “I will contact the investigating officer at Lingelethu West to find out why witnesses have not been called.
“We will make sure leads are followed.”
Ilitha Labantu spokesperson Siyabulela Monakali said the government must focus on resourcing police stations in areas where crime is rife.
“The crime rate is high in the townships but resources are limited,” he said.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said there were no new developments.
“The incident is still under investigation, a few people have been questioned with regards to the missing person,” he said.
Daluze said she had lost faith in the police.
“I am doing my own investigation. I gave up on them finding my child. If I was white my daughter would have been found by now,” she said.
