EFF leader Julius Malema yesterday traded in his classic red beret and overall for a graduation hat and gown at the University of South Africa’s main campus.

He was formally awarded his Bachelor of Arts in human and social sciences.

Malema was all smiles when he walked into the Theo van Wyjk Building at Unisa, accompanied by his wife Mantwa, grandmother Sarah and numerous cousins and aunts.

Also showing their support were fellow EFF members advocate Dali Mpofu, spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and deputy president Floyd Shivambu.

Malema, whose leaked matric certificate showed that he had failed woodwork, has been mocked over the issue for years.

The EFF leader went to Mohlakeng High School in Limpopo, where his highest mark was a C for second language English, and the lowest an H in maths and a G in woodwork.

According to reports, Malema had been enrolled in Unisa since 2011. He previously attained a two-year diploma in youth development.

Malema had started studying for his diploma and then his degree when he was still part of the ANC and facing disciplinary charges as youth league leader.
