Wedding planner still a free man

Alfred Muntz, the wedding planner who allegedly fleeced couples and suppliers of tens of thousands of rand each, is still a free man.

However, he has availed himself to Booysens police detectives in a bid to set the record straight.

Accompanied by his lawyer, Muntz on Wednesday gave a statement to detectives outlining his side of the story following a report in The Star on Monday.

He was interviewed and allowed to leave the police station despite a warrant of arrest being issued against him for a fraud case. He is alleged to have run away with about R30 000 that a former business partner had given him to buy flowers for a function.

But for now the police are unable to touch him because the complainant’s statement is incomplete.

SAPS spokeswoman Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik said police first needed to redo the complainant’s statement before the docket could be sent to court for a decision to prosecute.

“We tried contacting the complainant today, but were unable to reach him. We’ve left messages for him to get back to the station as soon as possible,” she said.

Cases against Muntz have been opened in Booysens and Parkview. His alleged victims say he needs to be held accountable for ruining what was supposed to be the happiest day of their lives.
