Cape Town - After a break of nearly six years, motocross is due to make a welcome return to Killarney.
On Saturday 20 September the CTMX club will stage a round of its championship on what is now an almost completely revamped circuit.
Under the guidance and supervision of multiple former champion Dean Hoffman, the club has been working feverishly and the level of the lowest sections of the track has been raised by more than a metre to alleviate a long-standing flooding problem.
Although Hoffman has retained much of the original layout, he has also incorporated several features from the best European motocross venues.
The rehabilitation plan also includes the gradual repair of the facilities behind the spectator barriers. These include viewing decks, a clubhouse, pits and a wash bay.
While the return to where it all started in the 1960s should stir waves of nostalgia among senior enthusiasts, the family angle is being emphasised, with events for riders from as young as four years of age.
Drag racing and Killarney Kilometre short-circuit meetings will also be taking place on the day.
Racing will start at 10.30am and admission will cost R60 for adults, R20 for under -16s and nothing for under-12s.
