The result at Killarney is that there is no main-circuit practice this coming Saturday, prior to the Western Cape’s grand finale on December 4. Instead the circuit will now be open for practice on Friday December 3 and again on race day morning.
Meanwhile the “house full” signs are out for the coming weekend, with the seasonal curtain coming down on karting as well as the short-circuit and supermoto racing, on Saturday. And with the two disciplines occupying adjacent areas on the complex, they are going to provide a double-header for spectators. So much so that a selected seat on the Engen grandstand should prove ideal for a view of both.
Sunday morning action is being provided by a track school for motorcyclists, with the afternoon devoted to a car track day from 2pm.
With legally licensed streetcars the ideal way for impecunious beginners to break into motorsport, it is essential for newcomers to attend the safety briefing at the start. Entries from those not present may be rejected. In addition, all vehicles will be subject to a mandatory safety check.
Although drivers are being given the run of the main circuit, entries will be divided into three groups. Group 1, for those with little or no experience, will be restricted to drivers not being allowed to pass under braking and having to maintain single file in the corners. Group 2 may overtake under braking but not in corners. None of these restrictions apply to the final group for experienced drivers.
Entry is R300 per driver, or R200 for WPMC members with their club membership books. There is a R50 charge for passengers. All occupants must be correctly dressed with long sleeves and similar trousers, closed shoes and an SABS approved crash helmet. - INL Motoring
