Durban - Sinqobile Khuluse, the head of Human Resources at Sandock Austral Shipyards has been elected chairperson of the Manufacturing Forum for the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Khuluse says she hopes her election will inspire young women, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds to join the field that remains the domain of men.
She said she was incredibly honoured and was confident that she would live up to the demands that come with the responsibility of being the chairperson.
“I hope to utilise the office to do good and where I can be the vessel or catalyst for someone to gain an opportunity or new business, networking is so important especially in the private sector and leveraging off of the skills and strengths of each other is a key advantage that we can use to grow Durban, attract new business and gain more investor confidence. I echo the sentiments that collaboration is the new commodity,” she said.
Khuluse cited the support from Prasheen Maharaj, the CEO of Sandock Austral Shipyards Prasheen Maharaj as being very important.
“With his support I hope to make strides in manufacturing especially for people from disadvantaged groups like myself. I believe that through my display of courage in leadership I will continue to inspire many more women within the manufacturing and business sector, where we are currently under-represented, manufacturing is such a male-dominated industry and I am proud of myself as a young black woman breaking boundaries,” Khuluse said.
Khuluse was recently awarded the Imbokodo in Maritime Transformation Agenda Award, one of the many accolades she has won in her career.
