The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and Human Settlements has denied claims that the assessment test process for the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) Trainee Inspector posts would continue on Tuesday.
This comes after chaos erupted in the Pietermaritzburg CBD, with several routes gridlocked on Monday as hundreds of applicants travelled to the Pietermaritzburg Showgrounds for the recruitment process.
The Mercury reported on Monday that there are 200 Trainee Provincial Inspector posts available but the department received more than 34,000 applications.
In a statement, KZN Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma confirmed that the assessment phase had concluded on Monday, and there was no recruitment process scheduled for Tuesday.
“Any posts being circulated claiming that the process will continue on Tuesday are not true,” said Duma.
The department has announced that the marking of 16,000 scripts has commenced and will continue until November 17.
It added that successful applicants will be contacted for the next phases of recruitment, which will include verbal interviews, competency tests, driving tests, and medical assessments.
It said the next phase will take place in Durban at a date and venue to be communicated to successful applicants.
Duma thanked the Msunduzi Traffic Department and other stakeholders for their support in managing the traffic congestion caused by the influx of applicants.
