A man is recovering after his dog accidentally shot him while he was lying in bed with a woman. According to reports, the couple had been lying in bed with the firearm nearby.
The Guardian reported that the one-year-old pitbull named Oreo jumped onto the gun, triggering a discharge that injured the man.
The dog's paw then became stuck in the trigger guard. Tennessee news station WREG mentioned that the bullet grazed Jerald Kirkwood's leg.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he was found to have non-serious injuries and was discharged shortly after.
Meanwhile, according to reports, the woman left Kirkwood's house and took the firearm with her.
In an interview with Fox 13, the woman described Oreo as a playful pet that enjoyed jumping. The couple vowed to practice firearm safety following the incident.
In 2018, Matt Branch sustained a gunshot wound after his dog stepped on a hunting gun while on a hunting trip in Mississippi.
Facebook page, Dog Fan, shared that while preparing for the outing, Branch placed his loaded shotgun in the bed of a pickup truck.
"A labrador retriever named Tito accidentally stepped on the gun's safety and trigger, causing it to discharge. The shot penetrated the truck and struck Branch in the left thigh, severing his femoral artery," the post read.
It said Branch, a former Louisiana State University football player, was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he underwent multiple surgeries.
Branch had to have a titanium prosthetic leg fitted and learnt to walk again. Despite his near-death experience, he still hunts.
