Whether it’s adding to their collection cases or swapping with friends, kids are once again eagerly trying to get their tiny hands on the popular Checkers minis.
But as any parent knows, one of the most frustrating parts of collecting is when your little one rips open the packet only to find a toy they already have.
So, what happens to the duplicates?
In the past, we’ve seen people turn them into earrings, charms, and other quirky creations.
South Africans are nothing if not inventive.
However, this year’s minis look a little different.
They come with a small suction base, designed for use with the board game in the collector’s case.
But of course, that hasn’t stopped people from finding new ways to use them.
Enter TikToker Sakeenah Mchenry, a Joburg mom who has gone viral for her clever idea.
If you’re a Crocs fan, you’re going to love this.
She decorated a pair of white Crocs by pushing the minis into the holes on top of the clogs, turning them into colourful Jibbitz-style charms.
Her video, captioned “Such a fun way to use the new minis for the kids. They don’t fall out,” has already racked up nearly 300,000 views and more than 10,000 likes.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“Ahh had me running to my Crocs to go put them on. Thank you,” wrote one excited fan.
“That’s the best idea, I love it! Now the new minis make more sense,” another added.
It turns out she’s not the only one with the idea, either.
“Thought it was just my son that did that. Pragtig,” shared another mom.
“I did the exact thing on my son’s shoe. Very cute,” someone else agreed.
Looks like these little toys are sparking plenty of creativity, and we can’t wait to see what South Africans come up with next.
