The ever-popular “Uthando Nes’thembu” has returned to Mzansi Magic screens with its ninth season, bringing viewers back into the Mseleku household at a time when the family is more exposed and more vulnerable than ever.
Now in its ninth season, the series continues to follow Musa Mseleku alongside his wives, MaCele, MaYeni, MaNgwabe and MaKhumalo. This season also sees MaKhwela, better known as Number 5, firmly in the fray, with her presence continuing to test the family dynamic.
“After eight seasons, we are now experiencing something completely different, brought on by the introduction of MaKhwela,” said Musa.
“The core idea of the family’s legacy is being put to the test, and viewers will have a front-row seat to everything,” he added.
“Uthando Nes’thembu” and its spinoffs have turned the Mselekus into the Kardashians of South Africa. As one of the most-watched shows on DStv, Season 8 drew 2.8m viewers per episode and generated over 1 billion social media impressions.
“Watching my family on television is a great and rare opportunity,” said Musa. “Even more so, it makes me realise just how well-known our family is across South Africa and the rest of the continent.”
Even after eight seasons, Musa believes this season will continue to surprise and entertain.
“It is important to keep telling the story because as we grow, the story grows, and it becomes more dynamic,” said Musa.
“People should watch this season because it brings something new. For the first time, we see the reactions of all the people involved in the show. Nothing will be hidden from them as they get the opportunity to be part of the family and have the right to openly share their opinions."
The new season picks up after the explosive December special, “#Uncut: Uthando neS’thembu”, which left the family at a crossroads.
Viewers watched as some of the wives openly spoke about possibly leaving the marriage, while Musa dealt with serious health issues. The once lively and jovial household was forced to confront hard truths, make difficult decisions and begin mending relationships that had been deeply strained.
Season 9 premieres at 20:00 exclusively on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161), with new episodes twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
