The people have been given what they want as S3 (formerly known as SABC 3) is bringing back the iconic show “Top Billing” to Mzansi screens.
Ahead of the viewer favourite show “Top Billing Reunion Special” on Thursday, November 27, the channel announced that the show will be on screens in 2026.
Batsetsana Kumalo, the original executive producer who steered Top Billing under the Tswelopele Productions, shared in a video on social media excitement about the show’s return.
In the last six years, since “Top Billing” has been off screens, it has been missed by audiences. The luxury show was known for giving an inside look into beautiful homes, fine dining restaurants and celebrity weddings.
“Top Billing is part of the South African pop culture. It's a legacy brand, a show that many people grew up watching and over the years.
“Since we've been off air, the last six years, there's been huge requests from audiences across the board, young and old, to say, bring back ‘Top Billing’. So SABC has heeded the call and indeed, finally has recommissioned ‘Top Billing’ to be back on screens in March.”
Kumalo once hosted and other former presenters include Bonang Matheba, Lorna Maseko, Ayanda Thabethe, Jonathan Boyton-Lee and Fezile Mkhize.
“Very exciting time and the reboot is really going to continue to tell authentic South African stories of excellence, of luxury, of travel, of decor, of art, of culture, of architecture and, fabulous weddings,” Kumalo added.
“We're going to keep to some of the pillars of ‘Top Billing’, but also evolve it by bringing content that is authentic, that is current, and that is rooted in South Africa.”
Charismatic voice-over artist, Sinemivuyo Mpulu, has been applauded for helping add to the call for the show's return with his innovative series, "TikTok Billing," which is extremely popular.
