South African export comedian, Trevor Noah has penned an exciting new deal with Paramount Pictures.
Paramount has acquired "The Island", an R-rated comedy film pitch based on an idea from the former "The Daily Show" host.
The screenplay is set to be adapted by Andrew Jay Cohen, who is known for his work on popular films like "Bros", "Zoolander" and "Neighbours" 1 and 2, starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron.
"The Island" will follow the adventure of two very different characters: a successful alpha businesswoman and a dedicated male high school teacher. These two polar opposites find themselves as the only survivors of a plane crash on a deserted island. To stay alive, they must learn to work together, despite their differences.
According to reports, Noah whipped up the idea back during the heights of the pandemic.
Noah will produce "The Island" through his company, Day Zero Productions, partnering with Paramount Pictures.
Norman Aladjem will also join as a producer for Mainstay Entertainment, with Rebekah Cheyne and Derek Van Pelt acting as executive producers on the project.
Noah has previously written, produced and starred in 12 comedy specials including "I Wish You Would", his third for Netflix.
He has also served as an executive producer on the MSNBC docuseries "The Turning Point" and Embeth Davidtz's film "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight", alongside Frankie Du Toit and his best friend, Anele Mdoda.
Day Zero Productions recently shared their excitement on social media about collaborating with Paramount and Andrew Jay Cohen on this project: "Excited to be working with Paramount and Andrew Jay Cohen on 'The Island', our first foray into 'com-roms', based on an original idea from Trevor. 🌴🌴."
